Taking time to reflect and transition

Dear 5/6 Families,

Happy Spring Break! As you can imagine, the week began with much energy, anticipation, and excitement with the arrival of Erin’s baby girl! The enthusiasm and love the 5/6’s have exhibited for her this week is a true testament to how special Erin is to them, and the caring culture she has instilled in this classroom. It has been a joy to transition into this community of learners!

This week, the students spent time reflecting on their global water projects, CLIC week projects, and other activities that focused on this year’s theme of Identity and Connection. This has been a great time for me to get to know each student a little better, as well as appreciate the process and journey that PBL took them on in their exploration of water crisis around the world.

Additionally, we were fortunate to have guest speaker, Stephanie Clement, visit our classroom to further discuss water issues around the world. Stephanie recently returned from serving in the Peace Corps in Zambia. There, she experienced first-hand some of the water issues the 5/6’s addressed in their projects, such as, contamination, drought, and water insecurity. It was a perfect opportunity for students to apply their knowledge to yet another part of the world as they responded to Stephanie’s engaging presentation with inquisitive thoughts, comments, and questions!

I hope everyone gets some much deserved rest and relaxation over break. I am looking forward to returning after vacation and beginning their final project on Fair Trade!
